Recycling nets 694 lbs. of paper

December 7, 2011

Students at TTC Nashville spent 2011 recycling white paper in an effort of support for the national America Recycles Day, November 15. Throughout the year, students collected a total weight of 694 lbs. of paper. Student volunteers such as Jordan Dilg, Aaron Hargrove, and Foday Kamara (pictured) pick up paper from offices and classrooms by emptying the recycling containers. The paper is then recycled, weighed, and the weights totaled. Approximately 10 students were involved this past year as well the maintenance staff.

TTC Nashville students were also invited to participate in other sustainable activities this past year. One activity in particular was the donation of 10 Tulip Poplar trees from the Cumberland River Compact, which were planted along the drive in the rear of the campus. This small effort will enhance the water quality of the Cumberland River and its tributaries like Richland Creek that flows behind the school and will provide students a shady place to rest between classes.

TTC Nashville is proud to provide these sustainable opportunities to its students and looks forward to adding additional activities in 2012 to demonstrate that the institution is a good steward of the environment.
