Phlebotomy
The purpose of the Phlebotomy program is to train or retrain students in drawing blood via venipuncture or skin puncture and to provide experiences which allow students to acquire basic competencies for employment as a Phlebotomist.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Application: Interested persons may apply at any time. Applicants who complete all requirements specified below will be placed on a waiting list and contacted by letter regarding enrollment in the program.
- Age: 18 years of age or older.
- Education: H. S. transcript, GED scores or College Transcript - All educational proof must be in English.
- Basic Skills Test: Reading and Vocabulary usage = 9.0 grade level.
- Health: Proof of Rubella, Rubeola and Varicella immunity. Lab reports must be provided.
- Negative TB skin test or chest x-ray.
- Hepatitis B vaccine is required.
- Physical Examination is required Must secure Health Screen Form from Instructor.
- CPR for Healthcare Providers is required.
BACKGROUND CHECK
Background check is required. Must be processed through Verified Credentials; secure information from Instructor
COURSE LENGTH
Four months or one trimester, 432 clock hours

CLINICAL TRAINING
Each student will participate in approximately six (6) weeks of clinical training. The hours of operation in each medical facility will vary; therefore, the student must be flexible and willing to meet the assigned schedule. Each student’s schedule is designed to provide maximum training experiences within a particular medical facility.
TRAINING SCHEDULE
Classroom hours: 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday
Clinical hours: Varies with clinical site
COST OF TRAINING
The estimated cost of training is $1,450. This includes textbooks, professional liability insurance, CPR training, student uniforms and accessories, health screens and background check. Trimester fees (tuition) are also included in this figure.
