Pharmacy Technician
MISSION
The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician program is to provide learning experiences which enable graduates to obtain basic competencies needed for employment as a Pharmacy Technician in either the hospital or retail setting.
DEFINITION (PHARMACY BOARD)
A technician is an individual who, under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the performance of activities of the pharmacy department not requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist. Technicians must be appropriately trained for functions performed.
ACCREDITATION
The Pharmacy Technician program is accredited by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) through the Tennessee Pharmacists Association.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Application: Applicants must meet all requirements below to be placed on the waiting list.
- Must be 18 years of age to apply
- Education: H. S. transcript or GED scores
- Admissions Test: Plato Fast Track pass 10th grade Reading and Math level.
- Health: Proof of Rubella immunity, Negative TB skin test.
COST OF TRAINING
The estimated cost of training is $1,908. This includes textbooks, supplies, personal items, liability insurance, and quarterly fees (tuition).
ENROLLMENT AND TRAINING SCHEDULE
Classes begin in January and July
Classroom schedule: 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday
Clinical schedule: determined by clinical site
