Industrial Electricity

MISSION

The Industrial Electricity program is a comprehensive course of study designed to teach the student the skills necessary to install, troubleshoot and maintain residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. The program is divided into seven (7) phases.

SAFETY

Basic safety is taught before lab/shop or live work is permitted. Safety is integrated within each unit of instruction and emphasized throughout the course of study.

BASIC ELECTRICITY/ELECTRONICS

Basic principles are taught, which include voltage drop, ohm’s law, magnetism, use of instruments, battery systems, series circuits, basic transistor theory, AC to DC conversion, use of diodes, voltage doublers, zener diodes, TRIAC, SCR’s, conductor types and ampacities.

WIRING TECHNIQUES

Conduit bending and blueprint reading are emphasized. Instruction is provided in cable pulling techniques, simple and advanced support techniques, and termination of wires. Students obtain actual experience in troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance by performing a wide variety of work projects for the school and through practice in the residential mock-house

COST

The estimated cost of this program is $3,650. This includes textbooks, supplies, tools, and trimester fees (tuition).

MOTORS

AC and DC motor operation and maintenance are covered as follows: DC shunt, DC series, DC compound, synchronous squirrel cage, round rotor, split phase, capacitor start, capacitor run, repulsion, shaded pole, and universal.

CONTROLS

Starters from size 5 to size 00 are used to teach a variety of motor starting techniques, such as reversing, sequential, autotransformer resistance, timed, and Wye-Delta.

PLCs, HYDRAULICS AND PNEUMATICS

Hydraulics include fluid properties, accumulator operation, check valves, and remote pressure controls. Pneumatics includes compression flow, switches, relief valves, regulators, and directional control. Programmable Logic Controllers includes, RS Logic, programs, on/off delay timers, counters, and sequencers, axis control, grippers, and servo systems.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
