Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program is a highly acclaimed course of study designed to prepare entry-level service technicians in the involved and ever-changing H.V.A.C. field. Theoretical instruction in fundamental electricity and refrigeration is followed by extensive hands-on experience in the shop. Emphasis on residential, light commercial air conditioning and refrigeration, or commercial refrigeration is provided in addition to troubleshooting (electrical and mechanical). The third phase of this 18-month program is Cooperative Work Experience.

BASIC ELECTRICITY

No previous knowledge or experience is necessary to begin training. When we say basic, we mean it, starting from atomic structure and Ohm’s Law to "three-phase" motors. Series and parallel circuits and series-parallel are covered extensively to promote circuit confidence. Schematic wiring diagrams are studied from ladder configurations to installation and pictorial diagrams and their interpretations. All pertinent relays (starting and switching), electrical devices and components necessary to the overall function of a typical Refrigeration machine are examined.

BASIC REFRIGERATION

If "boiling cold" sounds like a contradiction, you have not been introduced to the fundamentals of Refrigeration. Did you know that the cooling process is actually the absorption of heat? All of the mysteries of the refrigeration cycle are unraveled in our Basic Refrigeration course. Soldering and brazing techniques, flaring and swaging, heat-load calculations and duct sizing all serve to round out the novice’s new frame of reference.

"HANDS-ON"

Our shop experience and Co-op program are integral parts of our course. After spending nine months in the classroom, the student is exposed to a sample of what it’s like to be a service technician. The student will install compressors, evacuate systems, troubleshoot actual live work by putting to use the theory just learned in the classroom. Students are constantly evaluated and certain criteria must be met before they are placed with our many industrial subscribers. When students are assigned a Co-op position, they have a chance to learn and earn while enjoying student status. Many of our students placed in Cooperative training positions are hired upon graduation by their Co-op sponsors.

COST OF TRAINING

The estimated cost of this program is $2,800. This includes term fees (tuition), books, supplies and tools needed for training and eventual employment.
