Early Childhood Education
MISSION
The Early Childhood Education program offers three avenues of training for persons who desire a rewarding career in the Early Childhood Education profession:
PREPARATORY TRAINING
This course of study is designed to provide the academic background and practical experience necessary to become a successful teacher or assistant teacher in a preschool or school age setting. Upon satisfactory completion of both classroom work and on-site practical experience, students will be awarded a certificate or diploma. Persons interested in enrolling in the program must be 18 years old and posses a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must take an admissions test and be interviewed by the instructor.
CDA (Child Development Associate) LAB:
Child care professionals seeking career advancement and/or professional growth requirements may choose the direct assessment route to the CDA a nationally recognized credential with instruction from a CDA Advisor/Instructor. Classes meet for approximately 36 hours. Applicants must be employed in a child care setting and have 90 clock hours of formal training from an accredited post-secondary program such as our Early Childhood Education program.
COST:
The estimated cost of the program is $1,250. This includes textbooks, supplies, CPR instruction, and CDA Lab Trimester fees (tuition).
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
There are numerous opportunities for employment in child care centers, nursery schools, kindergartens, elementary schools, family day homes, and Head Start centers.

Supervised student practices are provided in state licensed and often accredited area child care centers and schools.
Before completing the program, students must obtain CPR & First aid training through the American Red Cross or Heart Association.
ENROLLMENT
Because instruction is individualized, students may enroll when a vacancy occurs. Persons who are already employed in a child care setting may attend the Early Childhood Education program on a part-time basis and receive credit for practical experiences through a Cooperative Education Training Agreement.

7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
