Dental Lab Technology
MISSION
Dental Lab Technology concerns itself with the construction of prosthetic appliance for the replacement of natural teeth which have been lost either by disease or accident. A person trained in this art is called a Dental Lab Technician.
Dental Lab Technicians work under the guidance of and upon the instruction of a Dentist. Technicians may be employed in a dental office and work directly for a Dentist. However, most technicians are employed in commercial labs which serve a large number of dentists.
The Dental Lab Technology program provides the theoretical and practical instruction needed for the student to perform specific duties in a Dental Lab.
Students are provided training in five basic areas: complete and partial denture construction; crown and fixed bridgework fabrication; gold and other precious metal cast partials; individual porcelain and acrylic restorations; and orthodontic appliances.
AWARDS
A certificate or diploma is awarded by the Tennessee Board of Regents to students who demonstrate competencies for a specific job classification in the Dental Lab Technology field.
