Cosmetology
MISSION
The Cosmetology program is designed to prepare the student to obtain licensure from the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology in a chosen area of specialization. This program is divided into three areas of training as follows:
COSMETOLOGY
The course consists of 1500 hours of instruction in theory and practical learning experiences. Some of the topics include: shampooing, styling, shaping, perming, hair coloring, facials, manicures, hand massage, arm massage, pressing, curling, make-up, jheri-curl, bacteriology, sanitation, and safety.
MANICURING
The Manicurist program has a minimum of 600 hours of instruction in both theory and practical learning experiences. There is more to manicuring than cutting nails. It’s an art. A manicure consists of caring for hands and nails, manicures, pedicures, sculpture nails, nails tips, and nail repair.
INSTRUCTOR TRAINEE
After completion of the Cosmetology course and licensure, the student has the opportunity to take the Instructor Trainee course. The Instructor Trainee course consists of 300 hours training within a period of six months. The course consists of student teaching, lesson planning, curriculum development, record keeping, and classroom management. Students enrolling into the Instructor Trainee program must have a high school diploma, a current Cosmetology license, 3 years working experience in a salon and 3 personal references.
