Automotive Technology
MISSION
The Automotive Technology program is designed to provide students theoretical instruction and practical experiences in diagnostics, repair and maintenance of domestic and import automobiles.
COURSE OF STUDY
The 18 month program [1944 clock hours] covers all eight areas of ASE certification as follows:
- Gasoline Engine Repair
- Electronics
- Engine Performance
- Automotive Transmissions
- Manual Drive-trains
- Climate Control
- Brakes
- Chassis & Steering
In addition to classroom instruction, students obtain hands-on experiences through live work projects utilizing the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Cooperative Education Training Agreements also allow students to "earn while they learn" in local dealerships and independent shops.
AWARDS
A certificate or diploma is awarded by the Tennessee Board of Regents to students who prove competency in specified areas of instruction. Students who successfully complete the entire course of study may receive a diploma as an Automotive Technician, General Line. Students are encouraged to work toward ASE certification in all eight areas. Graduates of the program may be given one year of credit toward the two-year work experience requirement needed for ASE certification.
COST OF TRAINING
The estimated cost of this program is $4,800. This includes quarterly fees, textbooks, supplies, and tools needed for training.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Application: Persons who wish to pursue a career in the automotive field may apply for enrollment at the school anytime.
- Age: Must be 18 years old or a High School graduate.
- Basic Skills Test: Prospective students will take the Basic Skills test prior to enrollment to determine reading and math proficiencies.
- Education: Persons who wish to enroll in the automotive program who do not have a high school education or GED will be scheduled to attend the schools Learning Lab for GED preparation.

Course schedule: 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday
