Auto Body Repair
MISSION
The Auto Body Repair program is designed to provide the necessary instruction in repairing damaged auto bodies and parts which will prepare the student for gainful employment in the collision repair and/or painting trades.
COURSE OF STUDY
The twenty-month, (5 trimesters) 2160 clock hour program provides theoretical knowledge as well as hands-on experiences in body repair. The major units of instruction are as follows:
- Safety, Hazardous Materials and Waste
- Introduction to Auto Body Repair
- Non-Structural Analysis/Minor Damage Repair
- Automotive Refinishing
- Structural Analysis and Major Damage Repair
Included in the comprehensive curriculum is a basic understanding of automobile construction, hand tools and power tools, welding, basic concepts of automobile repair, estimating, repairing and refinishing any type of collision repair.
State-of-the-art equipment used in this program includes a Chief frame machine and down-draft heat-makeup system paint spray booth.
In addition to classroom instruction and hands-on experiences in the shop, advanced students may "earn while they learn" through Cooperative Education Training Agreements which provide real work experience in local shops.
AWARDS
A certificate or diploma is awarded to students who prove competency in specified areas of instruction. Students who successfully complete the entire course of study may receive a diploma as an Auto Body Repair Technician. Students are encouraged to work toward ASE certification.
COST OF TRAINING
The estimated cost of this program is $4,500. This includes quarterly fees, books, and supplies and tools needed for training.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Persons who wish to pursue a career in the Auto Body Field may apply for enrollment at the school anytime. Because instruction is individualized, students may enroll in the program as vacancies occur.
- An individual must be 18 years of age or a H.S. graduate.
- Prospective students will take the Basic Skills test prior to enrollment to determine reading and math proficiencies.
Education
Persons who wish to enroll in the Auto Body program who do not have a high school education or GED will be scheduled for GED preparation in the Learning Resource Center.
TRAINING SCHEDULE
Day Classes - 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday
Evening Classes - 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
