Aesthetics Technology
Mission
The Aesthetics Technology program has been designed to prepare the student for a career in the burgeoning skin care industry. Through a structured program of theoretical instruction and practical experiences, the program also qualifies the successful student to obtain licensure as an Aesthetician through the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology.
What is an Aesthetician?
As stated in Tennessee Cosmetology Law and Rules, “an aesthetician does one or more of the following; massage, clean, stimulate, manipulate, exercise, beautify or perform similar work with hands or mechanical or electrical apparatus or by use of cosmetic preparations, tonics, lotions or creams; places or applies artificial eyelashes, gives facials, applies makeup, gives skin care or removes superfluous hair by tweezing, depilatories or waxing.”
Career Opportunities
The demand for aesthetic health care or skin care is rising at an incredible pace for numerous reasons, including the aging baby boom population, refinements in non-invasive cosmetic procedures; increased social acceptance; expanding technology; greater demand for skin care services by men; and the availability of consumer financing for aesthetic procedures.
The skills and services provided by Aestheticians are requested in a variety of settings including full-service salons and spas; retail merchandising settings, dermatology and skin care centers. Physicians and other health care providers are also utilizing Aestheticians to improve the health and well-being of their patients after surgery.
