Admissions Information

The Tennessee Board of Regents establishes the admission requirements for age, status, counseling and testing. TTCN maintains an open-door policy for admission into occupational programs. However, educational requirements for admission vary from program to program. Due to licensing requirements, some of our programs require a regular high school diploma or GED.

Application Procedure

1.  Complete an application for enrollment and submit this to the Student Services Office.

2.  Submit an official transcript of previous education earned from high school or other schools. If a GED was earned, a copy of the GED scores is required.

3.  Provide proof of MMR and Varicella vaccinations.

4.  Submit an Advanced Placement Form (if applicable).

5.  The applicant is requested to visit the instructor or a counselor to discuss course requirements and training costs.

6.  Complete any special admissions criteria for the selected program of study.

7.  Upon completion of steps 1-6, students will be called or written for enrollment based on vacancies in the program. Students will then be scheduled for an orientation and start date.

General Admission Policies

Persons seeking admission to TTCN must be at least 18 years of age or possess a high school diploma/GED. Applicants must complete an enrollment application, provide TTCN with copies of high school transcript/diploma, college transcript/diploma or GED scores; provide proof of MMR and Varicella vaccinations; and meet any special program criteria.

Students must declare an occupational objective and demonstrate through an interview or skills assessment reasonable potential for achieving that objective. All new students are to attend new student orientation. The objective of orientation is to provide an understanding of the institution's philosophy, purpose, organization and understanding of the schools policies and procedures.

Selective Service

The United States Selective Service requires that all male U.S. citizens or immigrants at least eighteen years of age but less than twenty-six years of age register with Selective Service for potential military draft. Failure to register with the Selective Service is a felony. This information is required on the TTCN enrollment application when applying for admission.

Vaccination Requirements

The Tennessee Board of Regents has mandated that all TBR schools obtain proof of immunity to Varicella (chickenpox) and have received the first dose of the MMR vaccine from all full-time students prior to the first day of classes of students' initial trimester at the institution. Subsequently, proof of receipt of the second dose of the MMR vaccine must be obtained from all students who are completing the MMR vaccination series as a condition of enrollment as soon as possible after the prescribed twenty-eight (28) day waiting period between doses. Institutions must obtain students' proof of receipt of the second MMR vaccine dose no later than the first day of classes for any subsequent trimester in which the student seeks to enroll in the institution as a full-time student. Full-time students who receive both doses of the MMR vaccination prior to the beginning of the trimester should provide proof of receipt of both doses before the first day of class of their initial trimester. In no event shall a full-time student be permitted to attend in courses in any subsequent trimester after their first full trimester without providing proof of receipt of both doses of the MMR vaccine. For Allied Health programs please consult their individual program pages for additional vaccination information.

High School Students

High School students may attend the Tennessee Technology Center at Nashville to obtain a technical portion of high school credits and obtain dual enrollment credits and/or hours toward program completion. High School students are enrolled accordingly through a special agreement with a school's Board of Education and/or through Dual Enrollment Grant Applications. High School students are treated as adults while on campus; however, they are subject to the High School's rules and requirements, as well as those of TTC Nashville.

Program hours completed as a High School student will accumulate toward completion requirements of the program in earning both certificates and diplomas and toward hours requirements of financial aid.

An individual may be given credit for skills and knowledge obtained in high school. Tennessee Technology Center at Nashville, Nashville State Community College, Tennessee State University and several surrounding high schools have agreements that help students prepare for technical careers. Advanced placement credit is part of this program. High school students should contact their respective school counselor.
